Quality Standards

The international standard for polystyrene followed by SASO (The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) is ASTM C578. This standard is specified for rigid cellular polystyrene thermal insulation products, which Rawas Al Diyar sells.

The standard describes the different types, physical qualities, and dimensions of cellular polystyrene boards, including those with or without facings or coatings (EPS).
Quality Control

Test Methods

Ensuring product reliability

According to ASTM C578, there are seven main tests to verify the quality of expanded polystyrene products:

  • THERMAL RESISTANCE: The test must be done following test methods C177, C518, C1114, or C1363. The test shall be conducted with a temperature differential of 40 ± 2 °F (24 ± 1°C).
  • COMPRESSIVE RESISTANCE: The test must be conducted in accordance with test methods C165 or D1621 at yield or 10% deformation.
  • FLEXURAL STRENGTH: In accordance with test method C203, Method I, Procedure B, all test specimens shall be 1.00 ± 0.06 in (25.4 ± 1.5 mm) or less in thickness.
  • WATER VAPOR PERMEANCE: Following test method E96/E96M, using anhydrous calcium chloride as the desiccant at 73.4 ± 4 °F (23 ± 2°C).
  • WATER ABSORPTION: In accordance with test method C272. The immersion time shall be 24 h, and the test specimens shall be 12 by 12 by 1 in (305 by 305 by 25 mm).
  • DIMENSIONAL STABILITY: Following test method D2126 for 7 days (168 h) using the following conditions: Temperature, °F (°C). 158 ± 4 (70 ± 2), Relative Humidity, % 97 ± 3; -40 ± 6 (-40 ± 3), ambient.
  • OXYGEN INDEX: In accordance with test method D2863.

Quality Lab Machines

Rawas Al Diyar is proud to be the first EPS company to own a high-quality laboratory at its facilities in the Middle East. For this purpose, the quality lab is outfitted with cutting-edge technology imported from the world's leading machine manufacturers.

The laboratory has multiple machines, which can perform the tests most needed by contractors. Moreover, Rawas Al Diyar intends to expand the number of machines to include all possible EPS tests.

Universal Testing Machine

Rawas Al Diyar has a 10 kN - Double Column Universal Testing Machine (Tabletop Model). The machine Conforms to EN 10002-2 Grade 1, ISO 7500- Class 1, BS 1610 Class 1, ASTM E4, and JIS B7721 Class 1.

The machine is well-equipped with multiple grips capable of performing Compressive Resistance, 3 Points Flexural Strength, 4 Points Flexural Strength, Tensile Strength.

Heat Flow Meter

Rawas Al Diyar has a cutting-edge HFM that measures thermal conductivity in accordance with ISO 8301, ASTM C 518, DIN EN 1946-3, EN 12664, EN 12667, and EN 12939.

The machine can perform the Thermal Resistance Test and operate on a wide temperature range of -20 to 70 ° C.
